About Us

Since 2005, CharityInChina.org has been connecting Greater China charities and volunteer organizations with donors and participants from around the region.

Our story

By the end of 2005, I had already been running a Corporate Social Responsibility consultancy and data platform in China at ChinaCSR.com for a couple years. At ChinaCSR.com we were often asked to provide clarity and insight into the activities and people running NGOs, NPOs, GONGOs, charities, and other organizations that operated in Greater China. And some of the key questions many corporate executives asked were: “How can I find charities to which we can donate, and organizations in which my staff can volunteer?

So in October 2005, we launched CharityInChina.org as a platform to connect potential donors and volunteers with opportunities in Beijing, Shanghai, Hangzhou, Shenzhen, Chengdu, Wuhan, and many other locations. CharityInChina.org is not a charity, but our platform joins needy charities with helpful individuals. I fund CharityInChina.org myself, along with a group of Sponsors and Friends, and the platform services are run by the team at Asia Media Network.

And I wanted to make the whole process as easy as possible for everyone to connect:

  • As an organization, you just register on our site and provide information about what you do, where you do it, and what you need.
  • As an individual, you tell us if you wish to donate time and/or funds, in which type of organizations you would like to participate, and your geographic preferences within Greater China.
  • Then CharityInChina.org simply emails the individual when we have an appropriate matching opportunity from an organization.

Some active individuals are emailed once a month, while others much less often — it’s all based on the match algorithm.

By the end of 2018, we had collected one of the largest non-Renminbi private donor databases for China and already helped hundreds of organizations gain greater visibility online. As we head towards 2020 and beyond, we will continue to grow and expand opportunities for worthwhile organizations.

Sincerely,
Danny Levinson
